ELECTRIC AVIATION IN ANTWERP: THE FUTURE IS TAKING SHAPE

Electric aviation is no longer a distant ambition. Recent developments at Antwerp Airport suggest that the first electric passenger flights could become a reality as early as 2030, positioning Antwerp as a potential pioneer in more sustainable aviation.

These plans have recently attracted considerable attention in the Belgian press, including Gazet van Antwerpen, De Tijd, Het Nieuwsblad and Het Laatste Nieuws. For us at FLYINGGROUP, these developments reinforce a vision we have been pursuing for several years.

In 2022, we announced our partnership with British aircraft manufacturer Vertical Aerospace, placing an order for 25 electric aircraft. Originally introduced as the VX4, the aircraft has since evolved into the Valo, a new-generation electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft. Designed to offer quieter journeys with zero direct emissions during flight, the Valo aims to provide an innovative alternative for short-distance travel, including connections between airports and city centres.

As one of Europe’s leading business aviation operators, we believe electric aircraft can complement traditional business aviation, particularly on shorter routes where efficiency, accessibility and environmental impact are becoming increasingly important.

With the first commercial electric flights from Antwerp now being envisaged for 2030, this transition is becoming increasingly tangible. Antwerp Airport is also preparing for this new era, with plans for charging infrastructure and solutions based on renewable energy.

Of course, aircraft certification, further technological advances and the development of the necessary infrastructure remain essential steps. However, the direction is clear. Electric aviation is gradually moving from ambition to reality, and we are proud to have been part of this journey from the outset.

At FLYINGGROUP, innovation and sustainability go hand in hand. We continue to explore new technologies and opportunities that can contribute to a more sustainable future for aviation.

The future of electric aviation is drawing closer. And we intend to play an active role in making it a reality.
