At FLYINGGROUP, sustainability is an integral part of how we develop and manage our infrastructure. A major milestone in this commitment was the inauguration of our state-of-the-art headquarters in Antwerp in 2020. Designed according to energy-efficient and future-oriented building principles, it incorporates the latest energy-saving and climate management technologies, enabling it to produce more energy than it consumes. Through the installation of 555 solar panels covering a total surface of 958m2, 18 geothermal boreholes reaching a depth of 150 meters, advanced thermal insulation, a battery storage system with a capacity of 229 kWh, and a high-performance climate and energy management system, the building has achieved an EPC score of -63, reflecting exceptional energy performance.
FLYINGGROUP’s headquarters relies extensively on renewable energy generated on site. The solar installation produces approximately 116.02 MWh of green electricity annually, while the innovative geothermal system efficiently provides both heating and cooling by storing thermal energy underground and reusing it when needed. Together with high-performance insulation, triple-glazed windows and a highly airtight building structure, these solutions significantly reduce energy demand and carbon emissions.
FLYINGGROUP’s commitment to sustainability goes beyond renewable energy generation and includes the responsible use of resources throughout our facilities. Intelligent lighting systems optimize the use of natural daylight and automatically adjust to occupancy levels, reducing unnecessary electricity consumption while ensuring a comfortable working environment throughout the building. Moreover, rainwater is collected in three underground tanks, each with a capacity of 10,000 liters, and is reused for applications such as toilet flushing, helping to significantly reduce the consumption of potable water. Additionally, FLYINGGROUP promotes a paperless office culture using digital workflows, reducing paper consumption. We also strive to maintain a plastic-free working environment by encouraging the use of reusable alternatives and minimizing the use of single-use plastics across our facilities. Combined with continuous energy monitoring, these measures enable us to manage resources more responsibly, improve operational efficiency and further reduce FLYINGGROUP’s environmental footprint.
Sustainability at FLYINGGROUP is not limited to the performance of our facilities. We are equally committed to reducing the environmental impact of employee mobility through a range of initiatives that encourage more sustainable travel choices. To support this transition, our Antwerp headquarters is equipped with 60 electric vehicle charging points, including AC high-capacity chargers with smart charging technology that optimizes energy distribution based on available power. In addition, FLYINGGROUP operates a fleet of approximately 31 company vehicles, all of which are fully electric. Employees are also offered electric bicycles as a sustainable alternative for commuting and local travel, supported by 28 dedicated charging points for e-bikes at FLYINGGROUP’s facility.
By combining a fully electrified company car fleet, extensive charging infrastructure and sustainable cycling solutions, FLYINGGROUP continues to reduce the environmental impact of their daily mobility and contribute to a more sustainable future. Looking ahead, FLYINGGROUP will continue to invest in both renewable energy and sustainable mobility, with plans to significantly expand their solar energy capacity through the installation of additional solar panels and to further grow their electric vehicle fleet in the coming years.
